Broaching Machine
Broaching is the procedure of removing metal by pulling or pushing a broach which is a cutting tool that cuts in a fixed path.
- Broaching has been derived from the word ‘braccus,’ a roman word.
- The 1850s was the era when the use of broaching started in Rome. The broaching machine tools were called ‘drills’ back then.
- The blacksmiths were the first people to popularize broaching.
- Those days it was done using an arbor press.

Types of Broaching
- a) Linear: The broaching is done linearly on the surface of the work piece to make the preferred effect.
- b) Rotatory: The work piece is cut by pressing the rotating broach on its surface.
